Hainan Chicken House | 海南鸡记 Information

If you're in the mood for something simple, yet satisfying, a visit to Hainan Chicken House | 海南鸡记 in Brooklyn might be just what you're looking for. Located on 8th Ave, this spot is all about comforting flavors that transport you straight to the heart of Singapore. The restaurant specializes in, you guessed it, Hainanese chicken rice, but don’t let the simplicity of the dish fool you-it’s the kind of meal that hits the spot in all the right ways.

Walking into Hainan Chicken House, you’re greeted with a casual, cozy vibe. It’s the kind of place where you can relax and unwind without the need for any fuss. The atmosphere is low-key, perfect for grabbing a quick bite or hanging out for a more leisurely meal. The interior isn’t over-the-top; it’s clean, bright, and inviting, giving off that neighborhood gem feel that Brooklyn is known for.

The menu here is straightforward, focusing on what they do best: chicken. The star of the show is, of course, the Hainanese chicken rice. Tender, perfectly cooked chicken served alongside fragrant rice, which is subtly infused with chicken fat for that extra flavor. It’s all about balance-each component of the dish works in harmony. You get that comforting, slightly oily rice paired with the delicate, juicy chicken, topped off with a side of spicy ginger sauce. It’s simple, yet full of flavor, and each bite just feels like a warm hug.

Another menu highlight is their roasted chicken, which is just as delicious. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with that irresistible smoky flavor. It’s a great alternative if you’re craving something with a little more texture but still want that same satisfying taste of chicken. The chili sauce that comes with it is a perfect match, offering a little kick without overpowering the dish.

The service at Hainan Chicken House is friendly and efficient. While the staff might not be overly chatty, they’re always prompt with refills and happy to help if you’re deciding between dishes. It’s the kind of service you’d expect at a casual spot: not overly formal, but they’ve got your back when you need it.

One thing to note is that this isn’t a place for those looking for a massive variety of dishes. The menu is simple, but it’s a strength, focusing on delivering quality rather than quantity. The sides are just as essential to the meal-whether it’s the homemade soup or the pickled vegetables, each side complements the main dishes well and adds a refreshing touch to the overall meal.

If you're in the area, Hainan Chicken House | 海南鸡记 is definitely worth a visit. The combination of flavorful food, easygoing atmosphere, and solid service makes it a standout spot for anyone in the mood for some authentic Hainanese comfort food. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this place is a no-brainer for a satisfying, delicious meal.

What People's Say About Place

~Traditional with a twist ~ Charming spot. Flavorful chicken rice dish served in humbled brown paper wrap- a nice touch. Char Kway Teow is simply delicious. Burrata Paratha is tasty- its Roti is fresh and crunchy. Server is kind and friendly.

1st time eating here, I ordered three meats (Hainan chicken, BBQ chicken, and BBQ pork with rice. The the presentation of the dish well made. The taste is good on the meats and portion. I wish to have more rice and add more chicken oil into the rice. The chicken soup not enough chicken flavor. The menu is sample and just focus Hainan chicken as specialty.

Haven’t had proper chicken and rice since moving back from Asia last year. This was amazing… had the 2 meats of roasted chicken and roasted pork belly with the rice… Delicious! Portions were really big so completely over ate and enjoyed every bite. This place is a 45 min subway ride from where I live (we were checking out green wood cemetery which is why we were nearby) … I would consider coming back here for Hainan Chicken again but def worth going if near by.

Proper wok hei, smoky and fragrant, with balanced savory flavors that hit just right. Crispy curry puff I always come back for

I have to come back here to try the rest of the menu. I had the Hainanese chicken and pork—both were absolutely fire. Tender and flavored. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the chicken rice too and could probably eat it by itself. We also got this curry dish and it was so delicious as well. Only tiny downside: the ube flan looked gorgeous but the cake part was dry and didn’t really taste like ube. Still, I’d 100% come back just for that chicken alone. Servers were super nice too!

This place have good food and services. We came here almost the end of their operation hours but despite that we passed the time, the staff didn’t push us to leave to pay the bill immediately. The Hainan chicken over rice is good compared to other in town. The chicken is cooked right. The Milk Teais a must! Delicious and smooth. Satay chicken is tasty and mild spicy with the sauce. Great taste Seafood noodle is spicy and the broth has a strong taste. I wish I can be a little less spicy and I don’t like the spell as much. Will try this place again next time.

Best Hainan chicken which surprised me. Chicken is tender, rice is soft and delicious. I also ordered one togo, but the soy sauce is different with the one when I dine in. If they give the same soy sauce, that would be perfect

The food is incredible here. The chicken broth and the chicken rice could be the very best I’ve ever had anywhere, even in Singapore. All the meats - the traditional Hainanese chicken, the roast chicken, and the cha siu are perfect and very flavorful. The sauces that come with the meats also should not be missed - I could drink them!! I also love their bak kut teh - an extremely flavorful and classic soup with lots of pork, stomach, and mushrooms, and their laksa. Service is very fast, efficient and friendly. I love the warm and bustling vibe of this spot. If I lived closer, I would take advantage of their weekday lunch special, which at $12 is unheard of now and an INSANE deal for all the food you get!!
